US tariffs on Japanese goods and auto parts: Section 301 replaces Section 122 on 24 July 2026

The Section 122 global surcharge expired on 24 July 2026 and was replaced by a Section 301 forced-labor tariff. Tariff analyst TariffsTool reports that US tariffs on Japanese auto parts are about 27.5% overall (2.5% MFN plus 25% Section 232), falling to roughly 12.5% for parts outside Section 232 coverage. The EU-US trade deal that took effect on 1 July 2026 sets a flat 15% on German auto parts, giving EU parts a tariff advantage over Japanese ones.

Separately, the Supreme Court ruling of 20 February 2026 on IEEPA tariffs opened a refund window for duties collected from early 2025 to 24 February 2026.
